Sumi on silk. A fine example of painting from the Obaku sect of Zen which was brought to Japan in the 17th century from China. This naturalistic theme by Taijou Shokan is a painting of crabs foraging on a grassy strand. The delicate lines and soft fading of the silk give this piece a quiet and subdued aesthetic.
